  •  A Winter GetAway at Sound of the Sea:

Check the forecast, and then call me at (914) 962-0494 and schedule your visit to Sound of the Sea for your Winter GetAway.

Even if the weather shifts and doesn’t produce the desired powdery snow, not all is lost! You’ll enjoy every minute at Sound of the Sea, and I’ll guide you around Town (via telephone) so your Winter GetAway is memorably fun and beautiful, even without the expected fresh snow.
Start the morning with a pick-up basketball or volleyball game or swim or run or work out (at the Fitness Center we'll arrange for you); then a cozy Breakfast at home including some of the world-class smoked salmon and croissants I arranged for you to pick up in Portland, on your way to Bar Harbor.

Then enjoy the crashing surf from the cozy warmth of our Turret Room; then walk along our very private road that is equal to the most beautiful Carriage Road in Acadia; then visit Town for a delicious pizza; then pick up a book at the Library; then… WOW, the weather just changed, and here comes the fluffy white powder! Lots of it! LOTS of it!!! (By the way, if the Town’s power goes out, you’ll be thrilled to hear our generator kick in!) But GO! Throw your skis in the car and head out to Acadia’s trails!

  • Cross-Country Skiing:
You simply won’t find more spectacular vistas for skiing than those offered by Acadia National Park. There are dozens of well-groomed trails for your enjoyment.

You’ll experience cross-country skiing like never before!

  • Ice Skating:
Many of the lakes and ponds of Acadia National Park offer glassy, plowed surfaces for you and your husband (and kids?) to enjoy a late afternoon skating party, best followed by cocktails and dinner out in the warm, social atmosphere at McKay’s Public House.

  • Snow Shoeing:
Trails for you, too! See the section above, about Skiing, and you’ll know what’s awaiting you! By the way, you can rent snowshoes locally.

  • Sledding:
The Kebo Valley Golf Course, as well as other sites to be discovered, provide some exciting rides for you and the kids!
Picture
  • Snowmobiling:
35 MPH on the Park Loop Road. And there’s no more scenic trail anywhere on Mount Desert Island than the Park Loop Road, which is closed to cars during the winter.

Ocean and mountains; ups and downs; curves and straightaways. It’s absolutely glorious!

  • Ice Fishing:
January-March – Numerous ponds and lakes are popular with local fisherman.

We’ll put you in touch with some who would be happy to welcome you to their special patch of ice and give you a tip or two.
