​During the summer, the Town’s energy is really fun… families visit from all over the world, filling the streets with their enjoyment. We find it interesting that multi-generational families will walk together with nary a smart-phone in sight! 
  • Village Green
The Village Green has spectacular trees, wonderful people and dog watching and meeting, and above all, little garden plots of flowers and herbs that are as beautiful as anything on Mount Desert Island!

People watching and dog watching are often as much fun as shopping.
  • ​Dog Walks
Dogs love walking through Town, because so many people will stop and pet them!
 
Wherever you go, they’ll be so thrilled when you bring them along; they’ll not only love the hikes, the swims, the treats, but they’re sure to meet and greet many new canine friends.
 
But best of all is Little Long Pond, a Rockefeller-donated preserve of about two square miles with a beautiful lake, gorgeous trails, and spectacular views of meadows, forests, mountains and ocean. Dogs are allowed off-leash, and yours will love to meet, greet, romp, and swim with many others who gather in the fields by the boathouse. The miles of trails provide the best horseback riding on Mount Desert island.

Every dinner we've had has been delightful! Whether it's their freshly shucked oysters from Frenchman's Bay, hand-cut and perfectly cooked French Fries, any of their entrees, or their blueberry pie a la mode, your entire family will enjoy this cozy restaurant!

This delightful family-style/pub restaurant that offers the finest craft beer selection you’ll find in New England. Here, you and your family will enjoy foods ranging from hamburgers, soups, salads, fish & chips, to fine steaks, roasts, seafood and more. Every selection – delicious!
  • For breakfast
The most enjoyable breakfast site you’ll ever experience… and they offer excellent dinners too! When we were building Rising Sun, we ate most of our breakfasts there, and enjoyed every single one! Now we breakfast there for a treat!
  • Pizza, Burgers, and Fish & Chips
​We’re New Yorkers… and we highly recommend one particular Pizza restaurant (delicious family-style pasta as well) as comparing favorably with Bronx pizza. ​​
​
We have a favorite place for fried clams that also offers very good fish & chips, salads and hamburgers.
