Nature:
No other rental cottage on Sols Cliff, and very few elsewhere on MDI, have comfortable access to the waters of Frenchman’s Bay. We do! I believe our rocky ledges extending out into Frenchman’s Bay, with magnificent views of the Gulf of Maine, Egg Rock, the Thrumcap, Iron Bound, Schoodic Peninsula and Bald Porcupine Island, cannot be matched by any other rental house. Our property extends out to the low-tide line, assuring total privacy for your sun-bathing, reading, standing, sitting, watching, or whatever. Nowhere else can you enjoy so intimate a connection with the rocks and the water as is provided by Rising Sun.
We’ve created a quarter-mile trail around the property that encompasses magnificent rock outcroppings, hardwoods and conifers, a few charred tree trunks left from the fire of 1947, spectacular viewpoints (each with comfortable seating), easy-walking stretches along the western boundary, and more rugged stretches along the northern and southern boundaries. The eastern stretch has two alternative paths – easy-walking along the shoreline, and slightly more difficult walking along the cobblestone beach and out along the rocky ledges. During stormy (and even just rainy) weather, the crashing waves and cascading spray are quite magnificent.
Fun for Your Kids:
A feature from my day… I set up a four person tent outside far enough away from the house to thrill your young children, but close enough to reassure you! (You provide the sleeping bags.) OMG, will they have fun! I guarantee you, you’ll never get them to sleep in the house!
Walking & Biking:
It’s a lovely, easy walk of 20 minutes from our house to Acadia National Park’s Compass Harbor, with its wonderful close-up view of Bald Porcupine Island and frequent eagle sightings. The Park’s Schooner Head Path is just a 15 minute walk from Rising Sun, and the center of Bar Harbor is just 20 minutes away. You can comfortably bike into Bar Harbor, and it’s a 15-20 minute bike ride to Ocean Drive in the Park.
Privacy:
Rising Sun is at the very end of Sols Cliff Road, and surrounded by water and woods and steep terrain. The setting is one of complete privacy. If your children are teenagers, they may well appreciate the privacy afforded by the ground floor bedrooms, with their separate entrances and remoteness from the rest of the house. The ground floor also offers privacy for your au pair, nanny, in-law, guests or whomever.
