Winter Restaurant Recommendations
Places we prefer, in Bar Harbor unless otherwise indicated.
Our Favorites:
McKays
I recommend McKays for New Year’s Eve dinner, as well as any other night that they’re open. It’s really the only winter restaurant I heartily recommend. Personally, if I were having dinner out three nights, I’d eat at McKays all three nights.
Side Street Cafe
A bit eclectic for my own taste, though the hamburger, especially the mini-hamburger combined with salad or soup, is excellent. “Rare” = Medium Rare, so order accordingly, or you’ll be disappointed. My wife likes Side Street’s various other offerings. Thirsty Whale
Fish & Chips, Fried Clams, Hamburgers are all very good. Choco-Latté Cafe
If you’re looking for a cup of coffee or hot chocolate, or a simple breakfast, this is convenient (on Main Street, across from McKays) and pleasant.
Sips (Southwest Harbor)
In case you’re on the western side of the island, somewhere near Southwest Harbor, this is the place for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Good selections of wine, and fun atmosphere. I’ve enjoyed all three. Also Recommended:
Geddy’s
We’ve been there for lunch in the winter. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it for dinner over the places I do recommend.
Havana
Good cooking. We generally don’t go there because we’re not fans of their menu. But what we have ordered has been excellent. So if you like their menu, by all means go there.
Epi’s Pizza
Good place for a simple lunch.
Peeky-Toe Provisions
Good offerings for lunch.
