Franklin Street: Restaurants and Stores
Island Creek Oysters:
Tuesday – Sunday: Open 12pm - 9pm
Excellent source of oysters, especially their own Island Creek oysters from Cape Cod.
You could do a little tour of: Island Creek Oysters; Portland Observatory; and Rising Tide Brewery, all of which are in the same general area (by car, not walking), and Rising Tide and Island Creek and Whole Foods are just before you get back onto 295 North.
Whole Foods:
You can get good seafood in Bar Harbor (at Parsons Lobster); but not especially good meat and poultry. If you want these (especially meat), you might want to get it at Whole Foods in Portland. You can also get ice here if you need it.
Go down Commercial Street to Franklin Street. Go left onto Franklin. After half a mile, Whole Foods will be on your left (just before Marginal Way.)
To drive to Bangor/Bar Harbor, continue on Franklin in the same direction(away from Old Port area) for one or two blocks, and you’ll come to the North bound entrance to Rte 295, which takes you past Freeport and eventually merges with 95 (Maine Turnpike) which takes you to Bangor.
