Seal Cove Auto Museum
Afternoon:
Bass Harbor Light House: It’s 10 minutes from the Auto Museum. Unless you’re devoted to viewing lighthouses, it’s not especially interesting. (Instead, on a nice day view Egg Rock Lighthouse from the Nature Cruise we so highly recommend; or view it from our living room with binoculars.) But if you want to visit it, follow the roundabout route to Bass Harbor, then back to Southwest Harbor for lunch or dinner.
Hungry for breakfast, lunch or dinner? Absolutely the place to go is Sips, in Southwest Harbor. It’s about 15 minutes from either the Auto Museum or the Bass Harbor Light House. I’ve dined there for many breakfasts, lunches and dinners, and thoroughly enjoyed them all! http://www.sipsmdi.com/menu/meals
Shop for Food at Sawyer’s Market – Meat, Poultry, Gourmet Foods, Breads, Cheese, Olive Oils and Vinegars, Wine, et al. These food categories are much better than at Hannafords. Many of their products come from Sid Wainer, with whom you may be familiar. http://www.sawyersmarket.com/ourproducts.html
Nature Cruise
Evening:
Back to Bar Harbor (about 20 minutes). Library: Borrow books if you didn’t find one you like from our own selection. There’s also various Bar Harbor/MDI historical material to explore, and it’s a lovely building to explore in its own right.
Dog Walk: Put on your rain gear and walk your dog up Sols Cliff Road.
Dinner: Prepare a memorable dinner with the provisions you bought at Sawyers’ Market! If it’s really been raining, the surf should be up by now. Step outside to watch, or just enjoy the sound of the crashing waves from inside!
