When you stay at Sound of the Sea for your Four Day GetAway, we do much more than just make our home available to you. We make it easy for you to plan your four days in Bar Harbor (including the drive) so your entire time is brilliant!
 
We start with your drive up.
 
If you’re coming from Boston or nearby, you can easily make it in one day. If the timing is right, we hope you’ll stop in Portland for lunch and a break.
If you’re coming from New York, we urge you to break up your trip by staying in Portland (which is only three hours from Bar Harbor). Once you're in Portland, we’ll guide you to the restaurants most likely to please everyone in your group. Also, there are a few convenient, superb sources for food (seafood, caviar, cheese, bread, and dessert pastries) that you might want to bring up to Bar Harbor.
Once You Arrive in Bar Harbor, You Can Enjoy Your Visit In Two Very Different Ways:
  • Spend most of your time at Sound of the Sea. Why? Because it’s Heaven on Earth!
  • Or get out early each day and enjoy two, three, or four of the numerous activities you’ll find in and around Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Then come home for cocktails on the screened porch or in the Turret Room or on Eagle Watch, and make dinner in our spacious kitchen (modeled after well-designed restaurant kitchens); or dine out in one of the restaurants we recommend once we know your taste in restaurants.

We start by sending you a questionnaire, then talk to you on the phone, narrowing down the possibilities to what’s just right and best for you, either as a group or as individuals. After that, we guide you so that all you have to do is show up and enjoy a special vacation of a lifetime!
