Enjoyment Of The House
Beds:
We shopped and shopped and shopped. Every bed in the house is really firm and comfortable. We are very picky about mattresses, and we think you’ll love ours!
You’ll find three bedrooms on the second floor – Master Suite, with a king bed, and a private bathroom with whirlpool tub and 8 foot by 4 foot shower room; Guest Room with a queen bed; and Lavender Room with three twin beds. The Guest and Lavender rooms share a bathroom with tub and shower (water views!).
On the first floor, the Master Suite ("Rose Room") has a king bed and private bathroom.
On the Ground Floor, which is accessible to a wheelchair, the Family Room can be arranged for dining as well. It’s flanked by two dual-purpose rooms – the Yoga/Bedroom and the Gym/Bedroom; each of these has a queen bed, and they share a bathroom.
Bathing:
Many of the old summer cottages in Northeast Harbor, Seal Harbor and Bar Harbor provide many bathrooms. But try turning on more than two or three showers at once; feel the water pressure drop and the hot water run out. Due to our investment in our water supply and heating system, you can simultaneously run all seven showers (and the whirlpool tub), and not run out of hot water or experience a drop in water pressure.
Then there are the views from the showers. The Master Bedroom Suite includes a separate 8 foot by four foot shower room with windows facing both east and north, providing panoramic views of the Gulf of Maine and Frenchman’s Bay all the way to Bald Porcupine Island. It has two independently plumbed showers in it, for both you and whomever you like to shower with. And we think the tiling is gorgeous! Another shower/tub also has water views; the first floor master bath has a rock outcropping view; the ground floor shower (if you leave the door open!) has water views; the outdoor shower has glorious water views!
A pleasure you’ll immediately appreciate if you’ve waited and waited and waited for hot water when washing your hands in old (and many new) houses is the instant hot water available at every faucet in our home.
Air and Climate Control:
The 54 oversized windows (with screens) not only provide unmatched views, but they allow you to control the fresh air flow into each room, and through the whole house. We designed the windows to take advantage of prevailing winds off the water. The energy-recovery air filtration system exchanges and filters the air inside the house with fresh air from outside four times a day. Breathe deeply, and compare the freshness of our air with the mustiness you may have noticed in older houses on the island.
When the weather is colder, the two zones of radiant heating on the first floor, and the four zones of baseboard hot water heating on the ground and second floors, will assure your comfort day and night. We’ll (remotely) set the temperature to your preferred levels before you arrive.
