Recommendations for Portland, Maine
Dear Lorraine,
A few more items of information and reminders:
Do you think you’ll be able to stay for the extra day?
Are you interested in going out for New Year’s Eve? If so, it’s important to make reservations right away.
Regarding your dog, Tina will put dog covers on the couch and chairs in the living room, as well as on the bed in whichever bedroom the dog will be sleeping. We do not mind the dog sleeping in the bed with you!
Therefore, Tina would appreciate your letting us know which bedroom you’d like to have her set up for the dog. I’ve attached a description of the three bedrooms to help you choose. You also can see photos of the Sound of the Sea rooms in the link at the top of the page.
If you have snow tires and it’s not too late to get them installed, it’s a good idea to have them.
Don’t hesitate to use the land line in the house for outgoing calls.
Are you going to be stopping in Portland on the way up? Since you use a French Press to make your coffee, I think you’d love a few of the food shopping options there. Let me know and I’ll especially steer you towards a few very special ones.
Tina’s cell number is 207.412.3169.
Feel free to call her, but as you probably know, cell service on MDI is very spotty. You can always reach either Nick (503.504.7570) or myself (914.962.0494) and we can pass a message to her once she’s in a service zone.
My wife Emily and daughter Natasha and son-in-law Joe will be arriving at our other home, Rising Sun Cottage, on Saturday as well. So if there’s anything you need or would like to know and Tina doesn’t cover it, don’t hesitate to call Emily (914.588.1282). She’s also the expert on the TV, which uses Roku for access. Also, if you don’t know where Little Long Pond (the very best place for dogs!) is, and the directions we’ve included in Activities aren’t sufficient, ask Emily. She normally takes her dog Lucy there every day, but Lucy has a broken leg and will be home in NY with myself and my elderly, infirm dog Duke (who will celebrate his 13th birthday on New Year’s Day!)
If your dog likes to play with other dogs, Natasha’s and Joe’s three dogs would be happy to meet her (him?)
The lights will be on and the front door open when you arrive. Be sure to review the last mile driving directions that Nick sent you, because Sols Cliff Road can be a little confusing (road vs. driveways) in the dark.
Best Regards,
Ned and Nick
